Weekend: New York II

Weekend: New York II

nyc-triptych1.jpg

Recipe for a great New York weekend:
1. Three haunted nights at the incredibly charming Chelsea Hotel.*
2. The genius of Alexander McQueen on show at the MET.
3. Books! Books! Books!
What more could a girl want? Perhaps good food and hilarious company. Thanks R & J!

If you haven't been, GO to the McQueen show at the MET, yes it's crowded and you have to wait in line, but so is Walmart and that hasn't stopped anyone. It's been extended until August 7th. The "Savage Beauty" catalogue is pretty good too, at least as a reminder of all the wonders you saw with your eyes, but it's cheaper at Strand. So, speaking of that place, my head is still spinning from the "18 miles of books". I scored a few amazing deals, that are just begging to be chopped up into collages, but I'll try to resist.

And now for the notorious Hotel Chelsea: I had no idea that you could actually get a room, and an affordable one at that. It's perhaps a little rough around the edges but every corner is brimming with history (or are those ghosts?). Explore each of the floors, peer down hallways and through cracked doors and chill on the fire escape, reminiscing about Andy, Sid, Patti, Joni and humming some Leonard.

For all NYC bound vegans (and vegan appreciators), don't miss Angelica's Kitchen. (byob)

Update: Since my stay at the Chelsea in mid-July, the hotel was sold and closed to visitors for year-long renovations. Concerned residents speculate about the hotel's future and their own. We'll have to watch and see the story unfold. But I sincerely hope that the hotel will remain open and affordable so that people can continue to enjoy it and celebrate it's rich past.
